This October we are wanting to give back and help raise awareness for Breast Cancer. We are having a boudoir marathon the weekend of October 20,21 and we are donating $50 per client to Breast Cancer Awareness Programs. We are going to be having a great swag bag for all attending and you will be pampered with hair and makeup by the fabulous girls of All Dolled Up Studio. We would love to see you here and help out with raising money for this important cause. Breast Cancer touches so many women, families and loved ones, here is one of the reasons that we have decided to do a marathon to raise money….
I met Cecilia in April last year, after we chatted on the phone, sent some photos back and forth, it was finally the day for her to come in and do her Boudoir shoot. She came prepared with ideas and was very sure of what she wanted. Most of my Boudoir clients come in and are a little nervous, but Cecilia was more confident than nervous. You see, she was here to celebrate her one year anniversary of having a bilateral mastectomy. We chatted about her families cancer history and her daughter, I was so touched that she chose me to capture these images for her on such a momentous occasion.
I asked if it was ok to share her story on my blog and she was more than happy to tell her story and let other women know that there is hope and we can fight this disease together.
Here are a few words from Cecilia:
A Little Window Into My World
I had a photo shoot with Kari Heese to celebrate the ONE year anniversary of my bilateral mastectomy in May 2010.
My journey began in April 2007 when I was diagnosed with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ). At the time, I was reassured that all they had to do is simply remove the lump. So, I underwent a lumpectomy. Fastword three years, a routine mammogram showed something new. With my family breast cancer history the only option left was to take an aggressive approach and remove both breasts. This was a well informed decision based on the best information possible through the BC Cancer Foundation. I am living proof that donations help expand our knowledge of this disease.
Now, one year later I am back to enjoying the simple everyday things and have peace of mind watching my young children grow up. I want to do what I can to protect other women from this disease. I know a little girl who has a maternal grandmother, mother and paternal aunt all in a battle against breast cancer. I want this little girl to associate pink with the colour of her bedroom walls and fancy party dresses, not breast cancer. I need your help. Please donate to the BC Cancer Foundation. This little girl is my daughter.
I am so honored to have been able to be a part of Cecilia’s journey. She is an inspiration! Thank you Cecilia for sharing your story.
